founder, Mr. Iso Bassey was keynote speaker at the recently concluded International Conference on IT and Economic Development 2016 jointly organized by the University of the West of Scotland and the University of Calabar. The conference which ran from 6 – 8th July at the University of Calabar International Conference Centre brought together members of academia as well as industry experts from across Nigeria and beyond.

Discussions on the theme of the conference – Information Technology for Innovative Economy were approached from various perspectives with Mr. Bassey speaking on Research and Innovation, Imperatives for Sustainable Economic Growth in Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of local research and innovation in driving economic growth through manufacturing, stating that “if the manufacturing sector in Nigeria can achieve 8.7 percent annually alongside other key factors Nigeria could be on track to becoming a top 20 economy by 2030 with GDP of $1.6 trillion.”

Other speakers at the conference included Engr. Uche, IT Capacity Manager for SPDC, Professor Zsolt Lipcsey of the University of Calabar, Dr. Abel Usoro of the University of West of Scotland.
