The Executive Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade has appointed Mr. Ikechi Uko of Jedidah Promotions as consultant to help internationalise Carnival Calabar 2015.

Mr. Ikechi Uko is the organiser of Akwaaba African Travel Market in Lagos, Accra Weizo in Ghana and Africa Bantaba in Atlanta, Georgia. He was hired to extend the flavour of the Carnival beyond the shores of Nigeria.

Carnival Calabar is arguably the biggest tourism event in Nigeria, attracting over 2 million people annually. The carnival which is tagged ‘Africa’s biggest street Party’, is now 10 years old.

Commenting on the appointment, The Governor believes the carnival is now a mature  product and should be harnessed properly as an international tourism product.
In his first move as International Tourism Consultant, Mr. Uko who also publishes the leading travel magazine in West Africa, TRAVELLERS and atqnews.com briefed members of the  Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) on the 2015 carnival. Mr. Ikechi Uko asked them to make this year’s event better with their global reach. Already many countries have pledged to be a part of this year’s Carnival Calabar he said.

After the briefing, the President of NATOP Nkereuwem Onung promised that all NATOP members will promote the 2015 carnival with 3 days, 6 days and 8 days packages. Mr. Onung thanked Mr. Uko on the quick move to involve NATOP and its members in the Carnival this year.
