The Lagos State Government and the City of Dubai on Monday entered into a historic partnership that will see Lagos emerge as the first Smart City in Africa.
Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, for the Lagos Smart City was signed at the Emirate Towers, Dubai by the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem and the Chief Executive Officer of Smart City Dubai LLC, Mr. Jabber Bin Hafez.
The signing of the MOU, which would make Lagos the home of the very first Smart City in Africa, was witnessed by the Chairman of Dubai Holdings, His Excellency, Ahmad Bin Byat who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, Prof Pat Utomi Vice-Chairman, SmartCity Lagos and Cross River born, Ofem Ekapong Ofem, Managing Director, SmartCity Lagos.
Mr. Ofem Ekapong Ofem, took to his Facebook to announce the historic partnership.
“Today we made a giant leap in our continuing quest to build for Africa a SmartCity that will be the envy of the rest of the world. SmartCity Lagos Limited will deliver Africa’s first carbon neutral intelligent city on an area measuring about 113million Square meters of Land on the fastest growing real Estate corridor in Africa-The Lekki Corridor. As we move to the next phase of planning the city as well as developing and delivering a new international airport, a rail and road system to connect the city to Lagos and the rest of the world we remain firm and resolute in our commitment to be private sector catalysts for driving the development of the African continent.
