All is set for the 5th edition of the Fusion Gospel meets runway show with the release of its 2016 theme, “Wheels of Hope”. The event which is aimed at giving back to the society will attract high profile designers, musicians, creative industry professionals and tourism promoters from Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and the host city, Calabar well as other areas in Nigeria and Africa.
According to the organizer, Mr. Emmanuel Etim, CEO, Rod and Staff, The 2016 theme, “Wheels of Hope” is aimed at bridging the divide created in the creative industry between the physically challenged (disabled) in our society. He said “Our research shows that most of the social diaries have no event or social activity that meets the social needs of this class of people, meaning that this class of people have been made pariah citizens for no reasons other than their possession of incomplete limbs, which a fact check on our polio discourse in relation to disabilities reveals is not entirely their fault.”
“Our private interaction with them shows a huge yarning to be socialized with and accepted as members of the society, and worse a largely untapped creativity pool waiting and hoping to find expression.” He further noted.
For this year’s edition, 20 wheel chairs/mobility kits will be donated to the disabled/physically challenged persons as well as have them on the runway as models on wheels.
They will also be workshops and seminars focusing on the areas that affect this special class of people in the society as well as engage them in value giving activities as some designers will be willing to allow them intern for those interested in fashion blogging, designing, modelling, photography, videography and any other craft in the fashion industry.
Wheels of Hope is projected to meet the social needs of the people, create a means for cohesion and a sense of belonging, enhancement of self esteem, equity of access, boosting the tourism industry, attract non-traditional audience and the minority ethnic group, disabled and the perennially socially excluded.
We are hoping that well meaning Nigerians will jump on board as we join the course to eradicate the social canker-worm from our society and create a well meaningful, safe and socially free environment for all our citizens.
The event is scheduled to hold in September, 2016 in Calabar, Cross River State.
