The Cross River Carnival Commission has named a Lagos-based marketing consulting firm, Okhma Global Limited, as the lead marketing company to oversee the yearly Calabar Carnival account.
The company’s responsibilities include increasing the revenue accruable from marketing by more than 80 per cent and providing public relations consultancy/advisory; strategy implementation, media content creation, production, advertising and sponsorship/partnership acquisitions.
The Managing Director, Okhma Global Limited, Mary Ephraim, pledged that the consulting firm would exceed the expectations.
She said, “For me, leading the marketing effort is not business. It represents an opportunity for me to contribute my professional bit to improving an event and culture I had been part of as a young girl growing up in Calabar.
“This is something I had always wanted to do. We are grateful to the commission for the opportunity.”
The Calabar Carnival festival, tagged ‘Africa’s biggest street party,’ was created as part of the vision to make Cross River State the number one tourist destination for Nigerians and tourist all over the world.
The carnival, which begins on every December 1 and lasts till December 31, has boosted the cultural variety of Nigerian people and entertained spectators.
This year marks the 11th edition of the carnival.
“The carnival is a big brand in Nigeria. My biggest wish is to make it bigger,” the Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, said.
“I will like to see the Calabar carnival evoke same depth and passion as the Rio carnival in the international tourism market. We promised our people of our state economic transformation.”
