Saturday, 16th July, 2016, The Calabar Poetry Community gathered at De Choice Fast Food as poetry in its finest became alive and poets exhibited mastery of words at the Calabar Poetry Slam 2016 with the theme “Letters from a Poet”.

The Calabar Poetry Slam was organized with the aim at gathering poets from across the Nation to build a vibrant Poetry Community as well as an exhibition of art in its essence.

Mr. Chris Sam, CEO of KCRISS PRODUCTIONS LTD, the organisers of the Calabar Poetry Slam had this to say;

“As a poetry community, we are starting a major movement to revive poetry across the Nation and this giant step, we are taking ‎in collaboration with Poet in Nigeria, (P.I.N) a registered and recognise body whose support for literary activities knows no bound and also Poetry Festival Foundation (P.F. F.)

The decline in the moral etiquette and standards of our youth in the country calls for a decisive step for change

According to him, the poetry Slam has the opportunity to boost tourism, promote the public image of Cross River State and stimulate interest in our local literary culture.

According to Barr. Christal Ogar, Co-organiser and the Executive Director of KCRISS PRODUCTIONS “Little drops of water fills the ocean, this is our first drop…and in no time, we will be cooking up major wave.”
