Plans are underway for the city of Calabar to host it’s own leg of Social Media Week in April 2018. The Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gaul Lebo told news men at the ongoing Social Media Week in Lagos.
The tech savvy legislator said the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade will gladly open his arms to the world to showcase the investments of the state in technology development and the works ongoing at Tinapa Knowledge City.
The Social Media Week is an interactive platform where new media practitioners – publishers, bloggers, PR consultants , stakeholders and social media influencers are scheduled to come together under one roof to engage in discussions to analyse the evolving trend of social media. The Future of Media Summit brings together broadcasters, journalists, content creators and bloggers to share best practices and discuss what’s next on the continents media landscape.
There were several breakout sessions on topics dwelling on how the social media is leading a change in the society.
For instance, the Governance Day gathers public and private sector representatives, civil society organizations and technology and governance practitioners to share experiences, challenges and advances on the use of technology for good governance.
Mr. Lebo said he believes that having the gathering in Calabar will spark up conversations about the city, position it on the world social media map and drive commercial returns in terms of visits by tourists to the state, amongst other benefits.
